Neurology

The neurologist treats disorders that affect the individual’s brain, spinal cord and nerves which include the following:
- Parkinson’s disease
- Alzheimer’s disease
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
- Speech and language disorders
- Seizure disorders ( ex. Epilepsy)
- Cerebrovascular disease ( ex. Stroke)
- Spinal Cord disorders
- Headache disorders ( Cluster headaches and migraines )
- Infections of the brain and peripheral nervous system (ex. meningitis, encephalitis, etc.)
Neurologists do not perform any type of surgery. If a patient requires surgery they would be referred to a neurosurgeon. They order the following studies:
- (EEG) Electroencephalogram
- CT Scans – Computed tomography
- Sleep studies and angiography
